Your memories of your debut for Littleborough?
I remember asking Ray Hill, our Skipper, could I have a word before the game. I told the boys in typical Aussie fashion “ I haven’t come 10,000 miles to f@*k around!!!!!”. I think it dropped a few jaws!!
Your favourite game and why?
Our last game against Hyde at Hare Hill. We had to win maximum points to have a chance to win the League. I hit their opener in the face and broke his jaw! He came back out to bat late in the innings which was brave. Micky Farrar took the last wicket in the last over to give us a chance and we got the runs to win the League. I remember Gar Hunter getting runs at the end to win the game! Wonderful memories and celebrations!!!!!!
Your favourite away ground and why?
Norden! It has a back yard as part of the ground at fine leg!
The best professional played against?
Played against some great Pros but I think Franklin Stephenson was the most consistent! I can’t remember him having a poor season!
The best amateurs played against?
In 1983 Milnrow had a pretty good side! A very good opening pair! Mark Chadwick and Charlie Truter. I had a couple of big battles with those two that season. “Chaddy” went on to play for Lancashire!!
The best amateurs played with?
Chris Dearden. Great player, long career!!
Favourite on the field memories?
Osca Jones doing anything! Absolute superstar!!
How about off the field?
All the parties we had at 19 Calderbrook Road. I shared the Terrace with Stuart Saunders (Rochdale Pro) and his then girlfriend and now wife of 35 years, Libby! We had some huge nights there!!! Also Roger Shackleton. “Shack” is a legend!!!
