Chairman’s Blog – 17 April 2022

So, the new cricket season has arrived which means that the eagerly awaited and very welcomed sound of ‘leather on willow’ will once again be heard around the ground here at Hare Hill, as we welcome our visitors today, Colne CC. I hope you all have an enjoyable day and that the game ahead is both competitive and played in the ‘spirit of cricket’.

Welcome also to all our supporters today and hopefully this will be the first of many times that you join us here at Hare Hill this season. It is always pleasing to see our fan base enjoying their cricket (hopefully in the sunshine) and to take the opportunity to catch up for a friendly chat, as the game progresses. I’m sure you will all agree that, once again, our ground is looking majestic for the start of the season.

I am very pleased to acknowledge that we now have a significant number of proud business supporters working in partnership with us here at ‘the Boro’, displaying their advertising boards around the ground, which we are extremely grateful for, so thank you very much. We also have a number of businesses; DEVELOP, PROBIO ENERGY LTD, PDS LTD, E.R. WILLIAMS LTD, BRENDAN MISKELLA LTD, and SET2IT LTD, who I would also like to personally thanks for their additional generosity and ongoing support. Please let me know if there is anyone out there also interested in talking further about joining our partnership team.

The Patrons of LCC have very kindly sponsored today’s game and would like to take the opportunity to talk with anyone here today who would like to know more about what being a Patron of our Club means and how they provide valuable support to what we do here at Hare Hill. If this is something that interests you, please make contact with a Patron or Committee Member, in our Lounge area, who I am sure will be more than happy to discuss this with you further or point you in the right direction.

A great deal of hard work has gone on behind the scenes during the closed season to ensure that the experience provided here at Littleborough Cricket and Sports Club, no matter what that may be, continues to be improved, enhanced and enjoyed by our members, visitors and wider community we serve.

I am very proud to lead the team that our members have voted for to make up the Management Committee that is responsible for running the Club. Each and every one of them work continuously, in their own time, to ensure we continue to provide the services required, so I would like to take this opportunity, on behalf of us all, to thank them for what they do, as this often goes un-noticed.

We also can’t do what we do without our cricket playing support team ensuring our teams are well prepared and matches take place, our ever-popular Steward and his hard-working team tending to our liquid refreshment needs, our meticulous Groundman ensuring our playing environment is up there with the best for club cricket, our newly appointed Caterers and Chef serving us with delicious food and last, but by no means least, our tremendously loyal and dedicated volunteers who, year on year, ensure our venue and surroundings are a safe and pleasant place to be.

The very best of luck to all our 4 senior (male and female) open age and plethora of junior teams, as we have lots to look forward to over a prestigious year that will mark 150 years of competitive cricket being played on our beloved ground. On 18 May 1872, Littleborough CC hosted the first official fixture against neighbours Todmorden CC. On that occasion, ‘the Boro’ ended up as comfortable winners of the game, by 7 wickets, after bowling out the visitors for 78.

I am very pleased to announce that this fixture will be repeated, but this time as a T20 game, here at Hare Hill, on the evening of Wednesday 18 May 2022. Please make a note of this date in your diaries and come along and join us to celebrate this historic occasion.

Finally from me, please find below a couple of other early significant event dates for your diaries, where it would be great to see you come along and further support your Cricket Club;

  • T20 cricket against an Army X1 on Thursday 2 June 2022
    (May Bank Holiday to celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee)
  • The return of our Music Festival Little Glastonboro on Saturday 25 June 2022
