Littleborough were grateful for the rain as the weather prevented a torrid afternoon at Cale Green on Saturday.

Littleborough were sent in by the hosts and straight away were in trouble, as the Stockport bowlers took control from the outset.

Littleborough openers Shackleton 1 and Davies 9 got the visitors to the worst possible start. With Hunter absent Barry Rae came in at three but could only make four as the innings was now in tatters.

Only Trevor Maden with an unbeaten 21 and Hobbs 10* came out of the game with any credit as Carter 0, Barker 0 and Taylor 1 couldn’t handle the Stockport attack. At 25 – 6 and the clouds gathering the Littleborough players were praying for rain. At 50-6 their prayers were answered when the heavens opened and the players dashed off the field, and to Littleborough’s relief they were never to return.
