Littleborough visited Rayner Lane and made the hosts work extremely hard for the four wicket victory.

Littleborough batted first, and made a fine start thanks to Bob Davies and skipper Roger Shackleton, with both batsmen looking confident against the Ashton attack. When the score had reached 66 Davies was the first to be dismissed as he was struck on the pads and the umpires finger pointed skywards.

Hunter disappeared quickly for only a couple and when Shackleton 40 disappeared at 75 Littleborough knew only a substantial partnership would give them a defendable total. Unfortunately this failed to happen as wickets fell regularly with only Barry Rae 13 scoring above nine.

They struggled to 122-8 mainly thanks to Priestley 11.0-1-24-4 and Morgan 11.0-0-30-3 and Littleborough realised they faced a struggle to gain victory over the home side.

After tea the refreshed Littleborough bowlers got the start they wanted as they took three early wickets. Carter took the wickets of Davies 9 and Shannon 1 who were beaten for pace and bowled. In between Mottram 0 was run out after a mid wicket mix up.

Ashton got back into the tie thanks to a fine 53* from Morgan. After initially unable to find a partner as Scarlett 2 and Kelly 2 were unable to offer any support. Fortunately for him and Ashton, Foxall 13 and Priestley 39* saw the home team over the line as they scored the 123 needed without further incident. All the Littleborough performed well but couldn’t prevent a victory for the home side.
