Doctor Jeckyll and Mister Hyde came to visit as Littleborough’s results were poles apart on a very strange weekend.
Littleborough saved their worst batting performance for their visit of Werneth on Saturday. The game began brilliantly for the hosts, in particularly Duncan Carter as he performed wonderfully with the ball to finish with figures of 15.1-1-48-7 to bowl the home side out for 118.
It started brightly for Werneth as Kelsall and Heywood put on 57 for the first wicket, but then the home team lost 9-61 as they collapsed in spectacular fashion. No batsman was able to cope with the sheer pace of Carter and alongside tidy fielding had the rest of the visiting batsmen in trouble.
After the tea interval Doctor Jeckyll made his appearance as the visit were shot out for a miserable 45 with only Roger Shackleton 12 and Bob Davies 10 spending any time at the crease. To say the batting was entirely to blame would be an injustice on the Werneth attack as every bowler had the batsmen in trouble.
It was hopefully a one off performance as they would definitely need to up their performance with the bat at Crompton the day after to avoid another humiliating defeat against the league’s bottom team. Which Littleborough side would turn up at Glebe Street I wonder?
