Stockport second teamed John Brookes destroyed Littleborough’s title hopes with a deadly spell at Cale Green. He took full advantage of a rain affected pitch to strike in the first over as Chris Dearden 4 was the first of what turned out to be a fantastic return of 13.0-4-31-7 and included was the prize scalp of former Stockport player Dexter Fitton for only 5, who fell to a ball which flew up off a length and caught the glove.
Gar Hunter fell first ball and Littleborough were 27-5 and deep in trouble. Littleborough captain Peter Jones decides that attack was the best form of defence, pushing the score to 44 before he was out for 16. Mark Hernon batting at three grafted away and was out at 52-7 for a dozen.
An excellent 35 from David Thewlis and 15 from Darren Stephens gave the score respectability even though the visitors were all out for 103 some 58 runs short.
Earlier Stephens and Brendan Miskella made good use of the conditions to reduce Stockport to 20-3 before the game began to slip away from them. Simon Flaig played a dogged 16* while around him Trevor Burnett 55 and Paul Burgess 52 both playing significant innings to help Stockport to end on what turned out to be a match winning 161-6
